For
centuries humankind has turned to the heavens for
revelation and guidance. Older then most major
religions, astrology is the art and science of
interpretation of heavens in relation to the
individual. For this it makes use of a two-dimensional
chart called a horoscope, on which are plotted the
positions of the Sun, the Moon, and planets at the
precise moment of birth.
It is a widely held belief that a correct
interpretation of these birth positions exposes much
about you. It can be thought of as the hand that has
been dealt in life. This does not suggest that your
life has already been decided. A horoscope can never
show how you are going to play this hand. It's largely
up to you to decide that. While you usually have
freedom of choice or free will, the horoscope does
reflect your natural inclinations, the lessons you
have to learn, the issues to be faced, and the
problems to be solved.
Astrology can provide incredible keys to understanding
and may give you some insights about the way you
behave and why you do so. This not only helps you to
accept and understand yourself and your natural
attributes, but it also allows you to understand
others, provided you happen to lay your hands on their
horoscopes!
Numerology
Pythagoras, the Greek mathematician is said to be the
originator of numerology. However, the actual origins
predate Pythagoras and have been linked to the very
old Hebrew Kabbala.
The art and science of numerology is perhaps the
easiest to understand and use. All you need is the
birth date and the complete name of an individual to
unlock all the secrets that the numbers hold. The
eleven numbers used in constructing numerology charts
are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 22. These
numbers are arrived at by reducing larger numbers, by
adding their digits together, to get either a single
numeral or the master numbers of 11 or 22. Each of
these numbers represents different characteristics and
expressions. The master numbers 11 and 22 are
intensified versions of the single digit number they
replace (2 and 4). These numbers suggest a potential
for a high degree of learning and achievement very
often in a more stressful environment.
Example: My birthday is 8th February
1939 (8-2-1939). Add 8+2+1+9+3+9 = 32. Then add this
number together. 3+2 = 5; my Life Path number is 5.
For the birth name, a chart is used in which each
letter corresponds to a number that provides a related
cosmic vibration. The sum of the numbers in your birth
date and the sum of numerical value of the letters in
the name provide an interrelation of vibrations. These
numbers show a great deal about character, purpose in
life, what motivates, and where talents may lie.

best time for major moves and activities in life.
Numerology is used to decide when to invest, when to
marry, when to travel, when to change jobs or
relocate.
Vaastu Shastra
Vaastu Shastra, the treasure of ancient India, is is
believed to have originated some 5000 years ago. The
word Vaastu means to dwell, and Vaastu Shastra is the
sacred science of designing and building houses.
Derived from the Vedas, it aims to restore the balance
between home and the macrocosm, bringing health,
wealth and happiness to inhabitants.
It has long been known that health and happiness do
not rely solely on things such as food or exercise. If
the mind is upset, the whole body is thrown out of
balance, inducing illness. The energy channels of the
body receive subtle cosmic energy called prana. Vaastu
stipulates that if prana is functioning properly
within the home, it ensures health, prosperity and
happiness.
For the prana to function properly, Vaastu lays great
stress on orientation and direction. The ancients
discovered that correct orientation helps prana flow
from the northeast and northwest corners, before
heading towards the southwest. If the structure is
square, it balances the energy in the southeast and
northwest. Thus, shape of the house or room plays an
important role. Square and rectangle shapes are
considered perfect for living than other shapes.
Vaastu Shastra lays down the ideal locations of
various components of the house. For example, it
stipulates that when sleeping the head should never be
towards the north, because head is also the north of
the body and like poles repel. Doing so would cause
problems that may range from insomnia to depression.
Here are some other important tips…
• Do not construct kitchen, toilets and puja room next
to one another.
• The kitchen should not be directly in front of the
main door.
• Keep all electrical or heat generating appliances in
the southeast corner of the room.
• Do not keep broken mirrors in the house.
• Mirrors, sinks, wash basins and taps should
preferably be along the northeast wall.
Feng Shui
Feng Shui (pronounced "Feng Shway", "Fung Shui" or "Fung
Shuway") means wind and water. Feng Shui originated in
the mountainous southwestern region of China during
the Han Dynasty. It is younger to Vaastu Shastra and,
according to some, even derived from it.
Feng Shui is used to first assess the strengths and
weaknesses of any property and then to make
recommendations to strengthen, harmonise and protect
it. Feng Shui was traditionally intended to find
locations within the landscape that had beneficial Chi
energy that protected the inhabitants. Chi energy can
be potentially destructive or harmonious and
energising. With training and intuition an expert can
detect auspicious Chi and assist in the correct
location of dwellings. Being able to assess whether
Chi energy is benefitting the property or "attacking"
it, is fundamental to Feng Shui.
Here are some important tips for your house…
• The best position for the main bedroom is furthest
away from the front door.
• For a harmonious relationship, an equal sided room
is best.
• If you have an adjacent toilet or bathroom, always
make sure that its door is closed when you are asleep.
• In colours, green has a very calming effect; blue is
relaxing but can be a little too cool; yellow is very
stimulating for the mind but leads to restlessness and
all shades of red encourage romance!
